004 February’s Bloom

Feminist artist Imelda Cajipe Endaya renders a charged political image in February’s Bloom where the Philippines personified by a woman plays blind to the reality that her child’s future is being bought by a bouquet of promises. In The Good Woman, the woman on the ground establishes herself as the guardian of the home. No one can enter or exit without passing through her. Like a placid Buddha, The Good Woman is serene and restrained. Imelda won a Gold Medal in the 1979 AAP competition and the first prize in the 1971 Philippine Association of Printmakers competition.
