011 The Waiter

Onib Olmedo, a figurative expressionist artist, is renowned for his distorted   portrayal of the suffering and anguish of society’s marginalized members. The Waiter arouses a feeling of empathy with his swollen eye that may have resulted from a violent bout. In The Musician and Women, Olmedo also shows his penchant for musicians and women as subjects for his art. Olmedo was the recipient of the Art Association of the Philippines annual competition gold medal in 1979 and represented the country in various painting competitions abroad.
